A brief History of Modern humans, Neanderthals, and Denisovans

             The human evolution and its developments has always fascinated me. Its interesting to know and learn about the path of evolution which human species under went over the 5 million years from where the evolution believed to be taken place and  slowly in to present day humans.The record of human evolution extends back from  more than 6 million years from Africa, to the point when our lineage split from that of chimpanzees, our closest living relatives, to about 5 million years. Although Homo sapiens  is the only surviving human species, we are part of a large human family tree. The fossil record has so far revealed evidence for more than 20 species of ancient human relatives hominines,The modern humans as we call it as Homo sapiens began their journey from African continent only 60,000 years ago.The rapid expansion of humankind to North America and Oceania took place at the peak  of the  Ice Age when temperate regions of present day were extremely inhospitable.  They have almost reached all continents by 50,000 years. At the same time the other species of humans and our hominid cousins  ie  Neanderthals and Denisovans also existed  with Homo sapiens or modern man. All three different humans species   lived simultaneously in different parts of earth until 25000 years ago.

          Modern humans spread rapidly from Africa into the frost-free zones of Europe and Asia  they were not alone. The Neanderthals and Denisovans had already  made the same journey and left Africa about 300,000 years ago and Neanderthals settled in Europe and parts of western Asia. The Denisovans are a much more recent addition to the human family tree. In 2008, paleo anthropologists digging in a cave in southern Siberia unearthed a 40,000-year-old adult tooth and an exquisitely preserved fossilized pinkie bone that had belonged to a young girl who was between five and seven years old when she died.

 Recently, scientists successfully extracted nuclear DNA from the pinkie bone and conducted comparison studies with the genomes of modern humans and Neanderthals. Studies show the girl was closely related to Neanderthals, yet distinct enough to merit classification as a new species of archaic humans, which scientists named “Denisovan” after the cave where the pinkie bone was found. The Denisovan genome also suggests the young girl had brown hair, eyes, and skin.

            Surprisingly, the scientists found genetic overlap between the Denisovan genome and that of some present-day east Asians, and, in particular, a group of Pacific Islanders living in Papua New Guinea, known as the Melanesians. It appears the Denisovans contributed between 3 to 5 percent of their genetic material to the genomes of Melanesians. Scientists think that the most likely explanation is that Denisovans living in eastern Eurasia interbred with the modern human ancestors of Melanesians. When those humans crossed the ocean to reach Papua New Guinea around 45,000 years ago, they brought their Denisovan DNA over with them.

           If this genetic mixing did occur, the fact that Denisovans were discovered in Siberia but contributed to the genomes of modern humans living in Southeast Asia suggests the species ranged widely across Asia, although their low genetic diversity also indicates their numbers were never very high.

            According to one theory, Neanderthals, Denisovans, and modern humans are all descended from the ancient human Homo heidelbergensis. Between 300,000 to 400,000 years ago, an ancestral group of H. heidelbergensis left Africa and then split shortly after. One branch ventured northwestward into West Asia and Europe and became the Neanderthals. The other branch moved east, becoming Denisovans. By 130,000 years ago, H. heidelbergensis in Africa had become Homo sapiens—our ancestors—who did not begin their own exodus from Africa until about 60,000 years ago.

         By comparing the genomes of apes, Denisovans, Neanderthals, and modern humans, scientists hope to identify DNA segments unique to the different groups. Early results already suggest modern humans underwent genetic changes involved with brain function and nervous system development, including ones involved in language development, after splitting from Neanderthals and Denisovans..

മധുര നെമ്പരങ്ങള്‍...

മഞ്ഞുകാലത്തെ ഒരവധിദിവസം..  രാവിലത്തെ മൂടിപ്പുതച്ച്ചുള്ള പാതിയുറക്കത്തിനു ഭംഗം വരുത്തി  പതിവുപോലെ പ്രിയ്യയുടെ ഉച്ചത്തിലുള്ള ചോദ്യം കേട്ടാണ് ഉണര്‍ന്നത് ..

എണീക്കുന്നില്ലേ നേരം 8 മണിയാകുന്നു ,,ഇന്നെലെ ബാലരാജിനെ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നോ ...  ഇളയച്ചന്‍ ചോദിച്ചാല്‍   ഞാന്‍  എന്ത് ഉത്തരം പറയും ..പ്രിയ്യ സ്വല്പം ദേഷ്യത്തോടെ അടുക്കളയിലേക്കു       ധൃതിയില്‍ മറഞ്ഞു.   പ്രഭാതകര്‍മങ്ങല്‍ക്കിടയിലും എന്റെ ചിന്തകള്‍ അവനിലേക്ക്‌ മടങ്ങി പോയി. പലപ്പോഴും താനാണ്  മടി പിടിച്ചു അവനെ വിളിക്കാന്‍ മറക്കാറുള്ളത് .എന്ത് പറ്റി അവന്..ഇന്നേക്ക് നാലു ദിവസമായി ഞാന്‍ പലപ്രാവശ്യം വിളിക്കുന്നത്‌ ..

ഞാനാണെന്നറിഞ്ഞയുടന്‍ തിരിച്ചു വിളിക്കേണ്ടതാണ് .അവന്‍ ഇതുവരെയും അത് തെറ്റിച്ചിട്ടില്ല ..ഇനി അവന്റെ മൊബൈല്‍ കലവുപോയതാകുമോ .ഏയ് അല്ല അങ്ങനെയാണെങ്കില്‍  ആനന്റെ അമ്മ പട്മാവതിയമ്മ -എന്നോടു പറയേണ്ടതാണ് ..ഇനി അവര്‍ എന്നെ മരന്നവോ ? വീട്ടില്‍ പോകുമ്പോഴൊക്കെ അവരെ കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതാണ്‌ .അവന്‍ ഇവിടെയില്ല എന്ന മടുപടിയാണ് പലപ്പോഴും കിട്ടിയത് .എന്നെ പിന്നെ കൂടുതലായൊന്നും പറയാന്‍ അവര്‍ വിട്ടില്ല ..അവരുടെ മുന്കൊപത്തെപ്പറ്റി അവന്‍ എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ളതാണ് ..എങ്കിലും ഒന്നുകൂടി ശ്രമിച്ചു നോക്കാം ...വീടും അതേ ഉത്തരം ..അവര്‍ വേഗം ഫോണ്‍ കട്ട് ചെയ്തു.
ഇനി പ്രിയയുടെ  ഇളയച്ച്ചനോട് എന്താണു പറയുക...എന്റെ ഏറ്റവും അടുത്ത സുഹൃത്ത് കണ്ണൂരില്‍ ഉണ്ടെന്നും അവന്‍ എല്ലാം നോക്കിക്കൊള്ളും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതോര്‍ത്ത്  വിഷമം തോന്നുന്നു ..
അവളുടെ ഇളയച്ച്ചന് ട്രാന്‍സ്ഫര്‍ വരാന്‍ കണ്ട സമയം ..ഞാന്‍ ആത്മഗതമായി പറഞ്ഞു ..

വീണ്ടും പ്രിയയുടെ ശബ്ദം ഉച്ചത്തില്‍ അടുക്കളയില്‍ നിന്ന് ,,എനിക്കറിയാം നിങ്ങള്‍ പറയുന്ന ഈ സുഹൃത്തുക്കള്‍ക്ക്‌ ഒന്നിനും അത്മാര്തതയില്ലെന്ന്..നിങ്ങള്ക്ക് അവര്‍ എല്ലാമാണ് ..ഞാന്‍ പോലും പിന്നെയേ വരുന്നുള്ളൂ ..എന്തായി ഇപ്പോള്‍ ...അവള്‍ എന്നെ ദ്രോഹിക്കാനുള്ള പുറപ്പാടായിരുന്നു ..ഞാന്‍ ഒന്നിനും മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞില്ല ..പ്രിയ്യ വീണ്ടും എന്തൊക്കെയോ പുലമ്പിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു  ..അവധി ദിവസത്തിലെ തീരാത്ത  വീട്ടു ജോലിയുടെ അമര്‍ഷവും അവള്‍ തീര്‍ക്കുന്നുണ്ടാവും ..സഹായിക്കാമെന്ന് കരുതിയാണ് ..പക്ഷെ എന്റെ എല്ലാ മൂടും അവന്‍ കളഞ്ഞു ..

പേപ്പര്‍ വായന ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു  പതുക്കെ റോഡിലേക്കിറങ്ങി.. .അത്മാര്ത്ത്ത സുഹൃത്തായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ഒരിക്കലും പിടികൊടുക്കാത്ത അവനെപറ്റിയുള്ള ഓര്‍മകളാല്‍ നിറയുകയായിരുന്നു  ..എന്റെ മനസ്സ് .. ..അതെ ഒരുപാട് ഒരുപാട് വേഗത്തില്‍  പിന്നോട്ട്  ചലിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു ...

ഒരു മഴക്കാലത്ത് ഓഫീസിലെ സ്വീകരണമുറിയില്‍ തണുത്തു വിറച്ചുകൊണ്ട്  ഇരിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ്  ഞാന്‍ അവനെ ആദ്യമായി കാണുന്നത് ഒരു സുമുഖന്‍ എന്നെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ ഗൌരവത്തില്‍ കടന്നു പോയി .   പ്യൂണ്‍ ഈരയ്യ കന്നടയില്‍   പറഞ്ഞു സാര്‍ ഇതാണ്  ബാലരാജ്              തുടരും ...

ക്രിക്കറ്റും ജീവിതവും

  കഴിഞ്ഞ മാസം  1983  സിനിമ കണ്ടു.. നല്ല ഫിലിം ...നിവിന്‍ പൊളി യും  കൂട്ടരും നന്നായി അഭിനയിച്ചു .. അബ്രിദ്  ഷൈന്‍ ന്റ ഒരു നല്ല വര്‍ക്ക് .ഒരുപാടു ബഹളങ്ങള്‍ ഇല്ലാതെ ,,അതി വികാര പ്രകടനങ്ങള്‍ ഇല്ലാത്ത ,എന്നാല്‍ ഒരിക്കല്‍ പോലും വിരസത അനുഭവപ്പെടാത്ത ഒരു കൊച്ചു സിനിമ .....  സിനിമ എന്നെ   കുട്ടിക്കലത്തെക്ക്  കൂട്ടി കൊണ്ടുപോയി. ഒരുപാടു ഓര്‍മകള്‍ എന്നിലൂടെ മാറി മറഞ്ഞു ...സിനിമ കണ്ടു വീട്ടില്‍ എത്തിയപ്പോഴും  പിന്നീടും അത് എന്നെ പിന്തുടര്‍ന്നു. സിനിമയിലെ പല രംഗങ്ങളും, മുഹൂര്‍ത്തങ്ങളും  എനിക്കു പരിചയമുള്ളതായി തോന്നി. കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളും അവരുടെ ക്രിക്കട്റ്റ് ഭ്രാന്തും..എന്തും സഹിച്ച്ചും കളിയെ സ്നേഹിച്ച ഒരു കാലഘട്ടത്തിലേയ്ക്ക് എന്നെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി ..

              

             എങ്ങിനെയാണ്  ക്രിക്കറ്റ് എന്നില്‍ വന്നത്  എനിക്ക് വലിയ നിശ്ച്ച്യമില്ല ....ഒരു ക്രിക്കറ്റ് മാച്ച് പോലും കാണാതെ ക്രിക്കറ്റ് എന്നില്‍ ആവേശം ഉയര്‍ത്തിയത്  ഇപ്പോള്‍ ആലോചിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അത്ഭുതമായി തോന്നുന്നു. കളിയില്‍ എല്ലാം മറന്ന്  പഠിത്തം പോലും മാറ്റിവച്ച്  ആറാടിയ കാലം.വീടിന്റെ മുന്‍പില്‍ മടല്‍ ബാറ്റും വടി സ്റ്റമ്പും കൊണ്ട് തുടങ്ങി . കളിക്കാര്‍ കൂട്ടുകാര്‍ തന്നെ ആയിരുന്നു. അജിയും,സുനിലും,ഷാജിലും,ജയനും,വസന്തനും, എന്‍ ആറും, സജീവനും ...പിന്നീട് ഉമേശനും ചേര്‍ന്നു. ഒരു കുഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ അങ്ങിനെ ആദ്യമായി ക്രിക്കറ്റ് മറ്റു കളികളെ  മാറ്റി നിര്‍ത്തി. കുട്ട്ടിയും കോലും , പമ്പരം , ഗോലി കളി എന്നിവ  ക്രിക്കറ്റിനു വഴി മാറി കൊടുത്ത കാലങ്ങള്‍...പിന്നീടുള്ള എന്റെ ജീവിതത്തില്‍ ക്രിക്കറ്റുമായി ബന്ധമില്ലാത്ത മുഹൂര്‍ത്തങ്ങളും, വഴിത്തിരിവുകളും ഇല്ലെന്നു പറയാം..പലപ്പോഴും പലതിനെയും ത്യചിച്ച് .അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ പിന്നീടെക്കു മാറ്റിവക്കപ്പെട്ടു.. അത്രയും ആയിരുന്നു ക്രിക്കറ്റും ഞാനും തമ്മിലുള്ള  ബന്ധം...

ഓർമയിലെ ഒരു മഴക്കാലം

 മഴയെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു  തുടങ്ങിയന്നനെന്നു  ഒര്മയില്ല .
 സ്നേഹമാണ് മഴ , മധുരസ്വപ്നങ്ങളുടെ
കാത്തിരിപ്പിന്റെ അടയാളമാണ് .

മഴയേ നിന്നെ  ഞാൻ പ്രണയിച്ചിരുന്നു ..

എല്ലാ മഴക്കാലത്തു നീ വരും എന്ന്   കാത്തിരുന്നു ..
ഒന്നും മിണ്ടാതെ കടന്നു പോകും നീ .... ..

പല മഴക്കാലങ്ങള്‍ കടന്നു പോയെങ്കിലും....
ഒരിക്കൽ എന്നെങ്കിലും  വരുമെന്ന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു .. ..
കുഞ്ഞു കുഞ്ഞു മേഘങ്ങളില്‍ ഒളിച്ചിരുന്നു  ..
 എന്നെ നീ  കുളിരണിയിക്കുമെന്ന് ..
ഞാന്‍  മഴക്കാലങ്ങളില്‍  ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു..

എന്റെ കാത്തു നിന്ന ഏകാന്ത ദിനങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ..
ഒരു തണുത്ത കാറ്റിന്റെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ .
ഓര്‍ക്കാപ്പുറത്ത്നി നച്ചിരിക്കാതെ .വേനലിലില്‍
തന്നെ നീ വന്നു  തുടരെ തുടരെ തുള്ളിയായി .
ചാറ്റല്‍ മഴയായി  വേനല്‍ മഴയായി പിന്നെ
മഴക്കാല സുന്ദരിയായി  നീ എന്നിൽ  ചൊരിഞ്ഞു..

പതുക്കെ പതുക്കെ നീ എന്നില്‍ മധുരമായ് പെയ്തിറങ്ങി,
ഞാനും നീയും  ഒന്നായി ആടിത്തിമര്‍ത്ത ദിനങ്ങള്‍ .
ഊണിലും ഉറക്കത്തിലും സ്വപ്നത്ത്ത്തിലും
നീ എന്നോടൊപ്പം കൂടി..മതിമറന്ന ദിനങ്ങള്‍ ..

ഉറങ്ങുമ്പോള്‍ നിന്നെ ധ്യാനിച്ചു ..മിക്ക ദിനങ്ങളിലും
ഉണര്‍ത്തുന്നതും നിന്റെ  മണികിലുക്കം  കേട്ടായിരുന്നു..
നിന്നില്‍ കുളിർന്ന  ദിനരാത്രങ്ങള്‍ ,നിന്‍റെ സ്വരത്ത്തില്‍
മുഴുകിയ  യാത്രകള്‍ ,  നമ്മള്‍ ആനന്ദ സ്വര്‍ഗത്തില്‍ ആറാടി .
നീ  വൈകുന്ന   ദിനങ്ങളില്‍ ഞാന്‍ അസ്വസ്ഥനായി ..
എങ്കിലും വൈകാതെ  നീ വന്നു എന്നില്‍ ആശ്വാസ മഴ പൂകി ..

മഴക്കാലം ഒരിക്കലും മാറില്ലെന്ന് ഞാന്‍ കരുതി..
മഞ്ഞു കാലത്തില്‍ നീ തുഷാരമായി വന്നെന്നെ
ആശ്വസിപ്പിച്ച്ച്ചു ..പതുക്കെ പതുക്കെ വീണ്ടും ഒരു
തണുത്ത  കാറ്റിന്റെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ എന്റെ മഴ
 എന്നില്‍ നിന്നകലുകയായിരുന്നു .നീ വീഴ്യ്തി
അപ്രത്യക്ഷമാക്കിയ മഴത്തുള്ളിപോല്‍ മറയുകയായി ...
വീണ്ടും ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒരു മഴക്കാലത്ത്   നീ  
വരും  എന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷയോടെ.....

My 2013

      My 2013 started without  resolutions and other pledges. Surely it was a low key affair. I was in Madikeri (Coorg) and not much celebrations as I was on duty and it was chilling cold  night still I could come out  night and watched the celebrations in the streets where people thronged in large number and cracked fires and shouted New years wishes.

       The year 2013 gave  me a lot of cheers in almost all the aspects, mainly more pleasureful and peaceful year than earlier and which most important in ones life. It gave me many things, a lot of confidence and mainly my focus on life has changed and   it was not through resolution or any other things , it happened because of the experiences of  the past. As we passed every year in our life perceptions too get changed and not many agree on that ,but I think this happens to almost everyone who is not stubborn in nature. I got many friends and revived some old connections which made me a lot happier although I could not contact many regularly but they still in my heart.

      I was extremely   happy and bit sad when I got transfer back to  AIR Thrissur. The staff of AIR Madikeri and my colleagues were so kind to me in 2 years and i really enjoyed  their affection and love.

        Another important event in my life in 2013  was that  I have purchased a house plot in Puranattukara and started house construction and expected to finish my next august. This was one of the long cherished wish to have a home in Thrissur and is getiing fulfilled now.I have not decided to stay here for long , at present it is temporary set up. Let future decide everything that's my plan.

         

       

                       
        

THE AAM ADMI PARTY AND ITS RELEVANCE

                The success  of Aam Admi Party in Delhi  did not surprise me much. The  the public anger, in the especially in  urban areas,  against the political parties were growing due to corruption and nepotism of  political parties. The anger was mainly due to the emergence of new media culture which exposes many such issues in to public domain than before .The  urban India has been going through a period where the social interaction are quickly due to the social medias. The the major political parties and their managers are aware of it  and  they are trying their level best cope with it.  The unknown fact  is that the majority of social media users are politically neutral or the politically floating public and they started reacting than before and it is good sign too.In Delhi  it was evident as the poling percentage has grown up.. The anti public policies and the pro corporate style of the main political parties are the major concern to the general public. The bureaucracy too, even today after the RTI and other acts  still hard to handle and corruption at this ground level huge and  rampant everywhere The new style of function of AAP is interesting  and lets hope they could sustain it for long.

           I am optimistic that the  whole political system  will get changed one day or evolve in to a new one. The  new  political culture in  urban India  are getting changed and to get this in to rural areas of India is challenging too as the majority of rural people still  under poverty.At national level the regional parties shouldn't be allowed to  contest  as they are purely regional and they can compete only at regional level. There are many  loopholes in our democratic and political set ups.   

               The mere victory doesn't fulfill the  all expectations of the public in Delhi and as party of new bread across India. They have huge responsibility to  deliver good and whatever they preached to be implemented soon. Otherwise it will be another catastrophe in the minds of general public. So be successful in power and deliver goods  are more difficult  than to criticize the power and system. I wish Mr. Kejriwal  and his intellectual team all the best and let's hope for the best.

Remembering the experience of the 2004 Boxing day Tsunami.

                    December 26 th again and this time it is the 9 th Anniversary of 2004 Sumatran -Andaman earth quake and followed by the colossus Tsunami which took lives of almost 3 lakh people across the glob. I was in Port Blair capital of Andaman and Nicobar and experienced one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.

                  It was on a boxing day Sunday early morning in Port Blair at about 0635 hrs ,I was watching the boxing day cricket match between Australia and Pakistan live on TV,suddenly heard a huge sound followed severe shaking quarters. Initially I could not sense it was an earth quake..All the items in kitchen and showcase were started falling down and we could not stand on the floor. Suddenly we heard the sounds of the SOS from  people who could come out of home and  they  started screaming too. We could not come out of home as we were in first floor and my younger kind was just 6 months old so we lied on the floor,suddenly i noticed that the quake is getting harder and ceiling started vibrating as if it it could fall down at  any time. we were helpless and the ultimate danger signals flashed on us. One moment we thought all over..... but some how after few seconds we could just sneaked out of home. Those moments we cannot forget in our entire life!!! It lasted about 2 and half minutes. 

                  After the quake I thought everything will be normal and I went out soon to see what happened outside and in the Dilanipur the near by junction i could see a big deep gap on the road, similar ones were many in the city. In office too the the ground floor broken.All the people were out side and they were in total disbelief about the quake and this was first time they were experiencing such huge tremor. At around 0700 am we could see the people were fleeing from low lying areas and when inquired they told sea water is coming up and that was the first waves is tsunami and again around 0830 we could see that sea water was filled in the beach which included the marina park, the football ground and the swimming pool and Indoor Stadium where i used to by this time everyday with Shaji M Raghav and Ramalingam Natarajan sir. Luckily that day we did not go as Shaji had morning duty.

                      Following days I experienced one of the worst time in my life as no water as all the under ground pipes were broken and no electricity either.Schools were closed indefinitely.But we decided not go native immediately , thanks to my wife Smitha who stood with me and supported that decision and later it was found correct too. People were panic as the relatives causalities were coming out from near by islands. When we go to markets we observed that a total death silence everywhere. When relief camps set up in Port Blair we paid visit to there to see the affected people. Heart breaking scenes we could see , there were many people who lost all relatives and everything, there were many who could not talk due to the psychological impacts of quake and tsunami. Luckily in port blair no much death casualties but in near by islands the death toll was huge than official and in many islands and total chaos followed .The Andaman Archipelago was twisted due to impact of quake and In port Blair was about one meter down and many beaches including famous Corbyn's Cove washed out. 

I was proud and lucky to be part of the famous live SOS phone in program started by AIR Port Blair immediately after the earthquake to help the victims and survivors of distant islands. There was no means of communication other than satellite phone and AIR in islands which helped many to contact and convey the whereabouts of affected people. I could still remember the long queues in front of office to send messages.                    

                    All the memories are vivid like yesterday and I am thankful to those who stood with me and family especially my friends Ramalingam Natarajan, shaji m raghav, Biju PVKiran KP , manoj vayoth and Staff of AIR Port Blair for giving all the support needed during the catastrophe .

Ttelegram service comes to an end in India

                          The last telegram went out in last Sunday, making an end to of service that lakhs of Indians relied on the for the fast communication until recently. The BSNL says the declining revenues forced it to end the service and it had become obsolete in the age of new mode communication 

                                The telegraph was the first form of communication and the messages  could be sent from a great distance. This was a one of the  landmark inventions  in the  human history. With the advent of the telegraph, messages were transmitted instantaneously to  farther and farther till it connected people from around the world by pressing a few buttons. Samuel Morse refined this technology and later led to the invention of wireless Radio Communication by Marconi.

                         India's telegram service began in 1850, when the first telegram was sent from the eastern city of Kolkata to Diamond Harbor, a southern suburb nearly 25 miles from the city center.At its peak in 1980s and 1990s6 lakhs telegrams were sent everyday from the birth announcements to job appointments  court summons to college admissions the telegram was main way communication to the millions of Indians and it was used until recently in many official purposes. It was not  informed by the government which way of communication they use in future..

The thought of cricket fan

             I don't know  why I stopped writing blogs. I had many issues in my mind to scribe. May be I was not organised self to do that or the inherent laziness would have pulled me out. Couple of years passed since my first blog which was on cricket betting that shook the lovers of cricket in to despair and dismay.The recent news on that heartened me that both  convicted players ,  Salman Butt and Mohammed  Asif,  they not only admitted the spot betting but they apologized to the public for their wrong doings.  This made me think the Pakistani  angle again ,whatever I read about  the Pakistan democracy and judiciary was always depicted as mockery or sub standard or controlled by the all powerful Army, but these incident made me to think otherwise. Here in India  many players and owners of IPL  have been accused of spot fixing and match fixing but none of them are convicted so far, though they were barred from international cricket still those who cheated the cricket lovers and tarnished   game are  still in power, one even made as MP that too in ruling party and he even made as the president of another sports organization and other people walk around freely   and no case are pending against them  in courts. We always talk high  about our democracy ,judiciary and our human right records and too often compare with Pakistani systems.Anyway at least in  cricket it is different. Recently  another  IPL spot fixing case came out and media just celebrated it for some days and depicted the players involved in the case are culprits as they got the details of phone calls and video footage showing as they are involved in it the  and players were remanded to judicial custody for a week or so. Lets see what will happen next few months  of time . Now the same media  started glorifying the some of the players. The the face saving work by BCCI and the police authorities will not stop the betting in cricket, since the powerful people are  involved  and  the cricketers they follow their all powerful owners in betting.
             What happened to us  even Pakistan could do this much  why can't our celebrated  democratic systems couldn't do  anything, may be the money and the political power  involved the game are above everything.  

CRICKET SHAME

               Not  so  long ago cricket has  been regarded as  gentleman's game.But now  the game  has completely changed not only the  way it played  on the field but off field too. This is mainly  because of  massive  involvement  of money in the  game. The game was played with passion, splendor and as a symbol to define one's status. The stress was on the glory and nation's pride rather than rewards. Such was the glory of this game which thrilled the players as well as viewers.But nowadays, values and priorities have changed. Cricket is benefiting a lot with money and new age Cricketers are more into league Cricket than playing for their country.The onslaught of celebrities , business professionals and gamblers in cricketing world has brought many plagues with it. 


              A new, not last,  scandal has rocked the world of cricket. , A British tabloid has  carried out a sting operation against a fixer, Mazhar Majeed, who has alleged that seven players from the Pakistan cricket team currently on a tour in England are “in his pocket”. Captain Salman Butt, wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal, and two bowlers — Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir — have been named by the fixer

         Pakistan cricket team is no stranger to controversies. From ball-biting incidents to ball tampering accusations, from imposing lifetime bans on players to reversing the bans within a few months, from changing captains like one changes clothes to accusations of match fixing. The latest episode is based on circumstantial evidence, with indications that some of the players were up to no good. Scotland Yard has questioned Pakistan team’s manager, Yawar Saeed, captain Salman Butt and two other players. Pakistan has just finished their one of the worst Test series against England and  still has to play the limited overs series. 

           In the last 20 years of cricket’s history, allegations of match fixing have recurred from time to time. The allegations have not been limited to Pakistani players; South Africa’s Hansie Cronje and some of the Indian players were also allegedly involved in the  cricketing scams but none except Salim malik and Cronje were punished. The ICC  should take strong action against the culprits otherwise this would continue in future also.
